FAQ: FAQ

What is a locum / staffing agency?

A locum (or locum tenens) is a person who temporarily works in the place of another and fulfils their shift & duties, usually when that person is absent or when companies are short-staffed. Locums still respect the regulatory bodies despite the independent nature of the work.

Locums tenens is a latin phrase that means 'to hold the place of, to substitute for', which is now more commonly abbreviated to locum. Many professionals have joined such locum agencies which have proved to be successful for many different organisations needing staffing assistance, from hospitals to schools.

At Sleep Health Concierge we have taken this initiative and transformed it into an agency with a passion to help make a difference in the world of Sleep Health, filling the gap with our experienced & reliable staff.

Sleep Scientists - Is agency work right for me?

Whether you are a Sleep Scientist looking for work; a part-time Sleep scientist currently working in a Sleep laboratory or a Sleep scientist-student looking for casual work whilst you study, locum work could be a perfect fit for you, allowing you to work as much or as little as you want. It's all up to you! Sleep scientists with scoring experience wanting to earn extra income can supplement themselves by working from home, scoring for us even if you're currently working already. It's that easy!

However like most career choices, one must also consider all factors (both sides of the coin) like the transient nature of the job may be great for those wanting to gain experience in a variety of work environments; gain more clinical experience & patient exposure all the while networking with other professional medical staff, but for others it may cause extra stress whenever a new position/placement is acquired. The flexible schedule and freelance nature of locum work may be fantastic for some looking for extra income or independence but the inconsistency in work thus income might pose issues for others. Before you think about anything else, create a budget, talk to your accountant, consider your work-life balance and visualise where you want to be. Working as a locum isn't for everyone, but it sure has its advantages so call us when you're ready to get started. We are always looking for Sleep scientists, and registering is free!

Sleep Laboratories - Why should I use an agency?

Our staffing agency will take care of your temp staffing needs, providing support and fall-back as required even if it is last minute. Locums provide a ready means for organisations to fill positions that are either temporarily vacant or for which no long-term funding or solution is available. â€‹This easy solution not only gives you the freedom to focus on patients, but provides peace of mind as we take care of ensuring you are staffed right with experienced & reliable Sleep scientists who have been hand-picked to join our team. All our locums go through the same processes you would have implemented to hire staff, and the documents can be made available to you to review if needed. This thorough process of recruiting locums means less of a cost & burden for you but allows for us to ensure we can provide professional, reliable, experienced staff every time.

Register once to become our client (it's free!) and we will collect & store all the necessary information we need then it's as simple as jumping online and completing our 'request form' when you need staff day or night. We charge a fixed rate per hour for different shifts which means you pay for what you need. We will invoice you (payments can be made via direct transfer) then we pay our staff, you don't even need to calculate superannuation, annual leave or sick leave - we've made it nice & easy! So consider us next time you have a vacant shift or position.
